A COCKTAIL OF BODIES, FASHION, SHOES, COLLAGE, MONO PRINTING AND MIXED MEDIA November/ December 2015

The Drawing Assignment prior to the Christmas fun day was very open ended, and the results reflected very different approaches and results from all of the students. This is because at Art Classes Perth, students are not ‘creative clones’ and have been taught to approach assignments through ‘their own eyes’. We placed three headless female torsos on the table, two silver and one black. These were adorned with different clothing, belts and jewellery. We scattered shoes around the table, and things of specific importance/ relevance to each of the students- things that they used in their everyday lives.

It is always important to reflect on things that you usually do not notice, but use or look at regularly on an everyday basis. For example, the humble coffee cup we use for early morning coffee. Most of us have a specific cup, use it instinctively without realizing the importance of this cup in our daily routine. Finding out about yourself, your things and your preferences should play a really important role in the creative choices you make. This is what sets you aside from everyone else, and this is what will personalize your artworks and set them aside from everyone else’s work. Choose images and references that you relate to, concepts that have meaning in your life.
